Busy Busy Busy

I got a job with PETA! (See my Work page for more on that). I'm so excited that I'm on the way to making my dream of making a difference with my work a reality. I'm also keeping myself busy with several freelance projects, so live is very busy!

I just got back from a trip to visit clients in Florida and PETA, and I went to Seattle Hempfest last weekend. It was a lot of fun, the theme was Education and I learned a lot about hemp, especially the history behind why it was made illegal in the first place. Apparently it was legal and a very important part of the American economy until the 1930's, when several corporations including DuPont decided to demonize it so they could make more money off of their petroleum-based plastic products. They worked with the government to demonize the plant and buy up all the patents so it could no longer compete with the petroluem industry. It's just horrible that corporations would start us down the road to overzealous oil consumption and complete reliance on oil when we could be using hemp to make plastics, fuel, paper, fibers, medicine, and so many other wonderful things. This is truly a miracle plant, and keeping it illegal is just about the most retarded thing the US could do. I'm also in support of decriminalizing pot so that the millions of non-violent offenders can get help, not punishment, for their use of the plant. I heard several medical pot patients speak about how much the drug has helped them with all kinds of ailments. I'm definitely in favor of natural medicines over dangerous chemical pharmaceuticals, so improving access for the sick is very important as well. There are just so many issues involved in the hemp movement, it was very exciting to go to Hempfest and be a part of it. Viva la revolution!!!

Well, I guess I better get back to work. Gotta write a proposal, finish a web site, and finish my IdahoSTARS work this week! Busy Busy!

August already!

I can't believe that it is August and summer is nearing its end. How did this go by so fast? I've been so busy I haven't even noticed. I haven't had a chance to do many summer things like visit the local swimming hole or visit a National Park.

I'm looking forward to a family reunion in Oregon this weekend. The week after I get back I'll be going to Florida to meet with a client and then to Norfolk, Virginia for a job interview with PETA (see my work blog for more). I will be flying back to Seattle and Seneca and I will spend the weekend in Seattle for Hempfest and maybe to do a little job hunting. It's an awful lot of traveling in a short amount of time, but boy do I feel important because now I can say I'm going on a "business trip." I'm crossing my fingers for no airline delays... I hate flying!

Other than planning trips, I've been working working and working, reading, walking the pooch, and stressing out about whether I want to move to the East Coast or not if I get a job offer from PETA. I'm not sure I'm the East Coast type, but I guess I could try it out for a while. Juneau would hate the hot humid weather over there though... Seneca may be able to find an engineering job over there, though, considering there are a lot of engineers. Most of them probably work at the Naval base though, and I'm sure Seneca has learned by now to steer clear of the US military, but I guess we'll see what I can find out about the area on my trip.

Well, I better get back to my busy busy life. :)
