Either my plate is too small, or there's too much on it...

I'm feelin' a bit overwhelmed lately, what a weekend! I just took over the design of the Co-op's newsletter, and I get all the articles & such late in the month, so I basically only have a few days to get 'er done. It kinda sucks that the weekend I need to work on it, there is SO much stuff going on! I'm still finishing it, and it's taking a bit longer than expected since it's the first issue I've done (it's around 32 pages) and I'm redesigning a lot of it as I go along. I also need to get some logos designed for Hempfest so the committee can pick one for the posters & shirts. Of course, it's a very busy week at PETA as well, and I've got another Peace Coalition poster to start.

This weekend was very fun, even if it wasn't as productive as I wanted it to be. Here's a recap... Friday: started the newsletter, went to a BFA opening for the graduating seniors (I can't believe mine was a whole year ago!), took the pooch for a hike in the forest, and went to a friend's party. Saturday: went to the peace rally (I got a free shirt with my design, which turned out great, and there was a big turnout despite the rain), then went to Dancers Drummers Dreamers, which was an awesome show that my roommate Moe danced in. Then Moe's brother, Ocho, had a show at the coffee shop and we went to see him play. Sunday: worked on the newsletter a bunch and went to the Holistic Fair, which was an introduction to various holistic businesses in the area. I got a Cranial-Saacral massage from my friend Dominique, who is a very talented healer. I needed it!

Adding to the stress this weekend was our hunt for a diesel VW camper to convert to a greasecar. We found a beautiful one on e-bay and were planning on bidding (the auction ended Friday) since it was in Bend, OR. These are very rare because they only made diesels for about 3 years, but after lots of research we found out e-bay motors is quite shady, and the seller was being even more shady... he couldn't prove it had been inspected and had no documentation, and he wanted to charge us like $400 for his "time" if we got down there and drove it and found out it wasn't as good as he told us it was. What a dick! So, we decided not to bid on it, and hopefully another beautiful Westfalia (or Synchro) will come along soon. Keep your eyes out, we need a traveling home for the summer! :)

Ok, enough ranting, time to get back to work...

Ahhhhh....

As busy as I am, I can hardly bring myself to work much on the weekends. I really didn't do much at all this weekend, I needed to relax! We went for a hike in the cedar forest, I did a Pilates video and lots of yoga, made some gemstone jewelry, and read a magazine (one of my new favorites) called Herbivore. I gotta start doing Pilates more frequently... I may start taking belly dancing lessons with two of my friends, although I'm a bit worried since I don't have much of a belly to dance with.

Among other things, one of my goals for this spring & summer is to revive unplug and start writing some articles for the next issue. This time I don't want to go it alone, I plan to have several talented friends contribute articles, photos, art, etc. I just have no idea when I can get it all together. But for now I am going to try to at least update the blog and get a cafepress store or something going with t-shirt designs.

Today is the first day of spring! It was a nice sunny day, a warmish 50 degrees. Of course, I just sat on my computer and opened my window, wishing I could be outside running through the woods. But it's not that warm yet. Spring is taking its time here. We had a pretty mild winter but it won't give up easily, there has been snow and/or hail the last few weeks, and it's been pretty cold. Even though I don't think I've had enough snowboarding for the season, I'm ready for spring. I can't wait until it's warm enough to sit out on the porch all day. If I gotta work I might as well take advantage of the laptop and the wireless and get me some sun!

This is going to be one hell of a weekend. My roommate, Moe, is in a performance called Dancers Drummers Dreamers and I think we're going to try to go Thursday night to see her dance. Friday I have lots of work to do and Moe's brother is playing a show at the coffee shop. Guess I better go to that since I designed the flyer for it. :) Saturday is the peace rally (I better go, I did make the posters!) and Sunday there's a Holistic Fair I want to check out. Of course, it is only Monday, but a girl's gotta have something to look forward to, right?

Busy Busy!

Wow, so far this year just keeps getting busier. Not a bad thing, but a nice long break in the summer is sounding better and better. :) It's been a really busy week in the land of PETA, with hardly a break for me to refill my tea or give the critters some attention. Among other things, I have my 6-month review this week. I can't believe it's already been 6 months!

Besides the 9 to 5 (or I guess the 8:30 to 7 in my case), I've been keeping really busy with freelance projects and other side jobs. As of this month I am the Co-op's newsletter designer, which should be fun, and some good experience designing for print (not to mention a break from looking at code all day). I just finished a poster for the Peace Coalition's peace rally marking the third anniversary of the war in Iraq. They absolutely loved the graphic I came up with (see previous post) and are so excited that they decided to print t-shirts and possibly a big banner. I'll be volunteering to do some more event posters and other projects for the Peace Coalition in the future. I also just began working with a new client (thanks to my lovely Aunt Susan, who referred me to him) on a web site, and that should keep me busy for a while. The timing couldn't be better I suppose, since another client had to postpone their web site project indefinitely. :( I also just found out that I will be designing the logo/t-shirts for Moscow's Hempfest/Earthday celebration next month. Yay!

So I have a lot on my plate, and I guess Friday will have to be freelance project day instead of sleep-in day. I've gotta save for traveling though, both this summer (hopefully) and a trip to Spain next spring to visit Rachel, who will be studying in Grenada (lucky lucky girl!). Maybe if I save enough I can go to a few other places in Europe, too. Wouldn't that be nice?

Of course with all of this work I'm starting, I've been making sure to have some fun. Two of my girlfriends had birthdays this week. Hallie turned 20 and Crystal turned 21 (youngin's!). So we went out to Hallie's for a bonfire & drum circle on Tuesday and took Crystal out for her "21-run" last night. She did pretty well, beat my record and made it to every bar. Of course she got pretty trashed and I got some really hilarious pictures (sorry girl!) but she was in good hands. Tonight we're having craft night when I get off work. Hempfest is coming up and I gotta get some stuff together for our booth. Well, I guess I better get back to work. Somehow I'm totally busy but not too busy to post on the ol' blog. Funny how that works....

Too Many Years

This is a graphic I came up with today for a peace rally poster for the Palouse Peace Coalition. They are having a peace rally on March 25, the third anniversary of the beginning of the war in Iraq. I just started volunteering to do some posters for their events, and I'm pretty happy with my first poster idea. Hopefully they will be too. :) It's not exactly a Happy Anniversary though, and I hope there is no fourth anniversary next year. But it was nice to get to create a political graphic like this for a good cause. I think it would look quite nice on a t-shirt. I've been trying to come up with some graphics for t-shirts and other items lately so Sen & I can open a CafePress store online and make some extra cash while spreading good messages. This may just be our first t-shirt!

Other than working on this poster, I've been pretty busy working for PETA, mostly working on their punk-rock inspired youth site, peta2. I'm enjoying it, even though the 10-hour days are tough to get through sometimes. The three day weekends make up for it though. And at least I don't have to leave the house to go to work. I wonder how much pollution doesn't get spewed into the air simply because I don't have to commute to work... Now that would be interesting to know.

Speaking of pollution and cars, Seneca is looking for a diesel VW camper he can convert into a grease car. We want to run it on vegetable grease (and/or bio-diesel) and travel around this summer. Obviously it's cheaper (or free!) to get french fry grease from restaurants along the road than pay for gas, the emissions are much lower, and we wouldn't be supporting war or the oil industry. Yay! Unfortunately, diesel VWs camper buses are hard to find, but if you see an ad for one for sale, let me know! It seems odd that a grease-burnin' VW is my dream car, but right now, it is. :) Someday Subaru will make hybrid Outbacks, and then that will be my dream car, but until then... I gotta get a VW (V for veggie, of course)!
